You awoke at nine, on that long frigid day
The house was now empty, there was nothing left to say
That icy cold rain slowly turned into snow
As if it had mattered, you had nowhere left to go


The windows had frost, and the bedroom was cold
The sky was still dark and the light hadn’t shone
You took a long look at the life that you’d made
Wondered how all that you’d known would now fade

Was there anyone you love, or whom you’d enthrall
One who could pick you up, when you hit the wall

You’ve got little to depend on now, and nobody would now depend on you
The few who recognize you now don’t matter on that long frigid day



You mustered up the strength to get out of that bed
Desperately looking for your mind to be fed
There was no one in the kitchen, nobody in the den

A grim recalling of that which you should not have known
